🌤️ WeatherWatch Privacy Policy
Effective Date: August 16, 2026 | Last Updated: August 16, 2026
Thank you for choosing WeatherWatch - Live Weather & Forecast ("WeatherWatch", "we", "our"). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy details how our Chrome extension processes data in compliance with Google Chrome Web Store Developer Policies.
1. Single Purpose & Core Functionality
WeatherWatch is designed with a strict privacy-by-design architecture. The extension serves a single, clear purpose: to display live weather forecasts, 24-hour predictions, 7-day outlooks, air quality data, and multi-city tracking inside your browser's toolbar popup and side panel.
2. Data Collection & Handling Practices
A. Location Coordinates (Geolocation & IP Lookup)
- Usage: When automatic location detection is enabled, WeatherWatch accesses your approximate latitude and longitude coordinates solely to query current local meteorological forecasts.
- Transmission: Coordinates are transmitted in real-time to open meteorological data providers (such as Open-Meteo).
- Retention: We do not record, track, store, or profile your location history on developer servers.
B. User Settings & Local Storage
- Preferences such as temperature units (°C/°F), theme mode, refresh frequency, and custom saved cities are stored locally on your device via Chrome's
chrome.storage API.
- This data never leaves your local browser profile.
C. Google Profile Sync
- If enabled, Chrome's standard profile sync (
chrome.identity) may sync your saved cities across your own logged-in Chrome instances. WeatherWatch has no access to your Google password, email, or account identity.
3. Chrome Web Store Policy Compliance
✔ No Data Selling: We never sell, rent, or monetize your data.
✔ No Advertising: Data is never used for personalized advertising or credit scoring.
✔ No Browsing Tracking: We do not track your browsing history, visited URLs, or search activity.
✔ Minimal Permissions: Only permissions required for weather functionality are requested.
